Metadata is logical information extracted from video streams for easier camera management and retrieval of information that describes object-related content in the camera FOV.
In Axxon One, metadata can be obtained in two ways:
- by By analyzing video streams on Server ; by detection tools.
- By by receiving metadata from edge devices camera built-in analytics (see Embedded Detection Tools).

To extract metadata from video, you have to de-compress and analyze the video stream, which , in its turn, increases the Server's workload, thus limiting the number of available camera channels. |
The following tools are used for server-side analysis and metadata generation:
VMD.
Info title Note Object tracker and Neural Tracker generates generate metadata containing the following information about moving objects in sceneFOV: object type, position, size and color, motion speed and direction, etc.
VMD.
Info title Note VMD generates less accurate data; it . It does not detect object type and color.
Info title Note Face detection metadata contain contains facial bounding boxes and their positions, as well as facial vectors.
Automatic Number Plate Recognition (LPR/ANPR) tools.
Info title Note ANPR metadata contain contains license plate bounding boxes and their positions, as well as vehicle registration numbers.
Info title Note Metadata from pose detection tools contains information on positions and postures pose (skeleton) of all persons people in FOV.
Equipment detection tool (PPE)
Info title Note Equipment detection metadata contains information about the position of all the people in FOV.
The metadata is used for the following system options:

If a camera uses several sources of metadata, the required source is selected automatically, except for MomentQuest. To perform facialface/license number searches, only metadata from corresponding detection tools is used. |
By default, metadata is stored as files are stored in Server's the object trajectory database : C:\Program Files\AxxonSoft\Axxon One\Metadata\in the local Server directory that was selected when installing Axxon One (see Installation) in the vmda_db\VMDA_DB.0\vmda_schema ; if subfolder.
