Recording to archive is performed on a loop in the Intellect software package (see the General information on video archiving section). Therefore, old archive recordings can be replaced by new ones. But sometime it is required to protect important recordings from loop recording. In such case, permissions to protect files from rewriting are needed.
Protected files are moved to the PROTECTED folder in the VIDEO folder on the disk with archive. When the file is deprotected, it is moved back to the folder from which it was taken (if it exists). If this folder was removed because of all files in it were rewritten, then the file will stay in the PROTECTED folder but won't be displayed in the Monitor. Later, this file will be deleted by loop recording.

- Go to the Users tab in the System settings dialog box (1).
- In the objects tree located under the User permissions button in the Users tab, select the same-name object corresponding to the Operator access permissions which are to should be changed (2).
- The settings panel of the User permissions object will display on the right of the System settings dialog box.
- To allow Operator the operator to protect archive files from rewriting, set the Allow protecting files from overwriting checkbox checked checkbox (3). Don't set this checkbox checked if the operator should not have this permission.
- To allow Operator the operator to disable protection of files protected from rewriting, set the Allow removing file protection checkbox checked (4). Don't set this checkbox checked if the operator should not have this permission.
- Click the Apply button (5).
