What to do if the "Database connection error" appears?

If the database connection error is displayed when you start Axxon PSIM, you must check the following:

1. Run the idb.exe database update utility (from the Start menu → PSIM → Utilities or from the <Axxon PSIM installation directory>\Tools folder). Update the database.

2. If the DB update is performed with errors, run the SQL Server Management Studio utility (from the Start menu → Microsoft SQL Server 2019) and check the connection to the DB with the same parameters that are specified in the connection string of the idb.exe utility.
   If the connection isn't established, check the correctness of the credentials used for it. If you perform the authentication using Windows credentials, you must check that the user has access rights to the SQL server. To do this, log into the SQL server under the embedded administrator account.
   You must also check that the SQL server service is running. You can do this in the SQL Server Configuration Manager utility (Start → Microsoft SQL Server 2019 → Configuration Tools) in the SQL Server Services section.

3. If the connection to the SQL server is established in the SQL Server Management Studio utility, it means that the Axxon PSIM configuration database is damaged. You must remove it, recreate, and configure the connection to it in the idb.exe utility. After you do this, you must restore the database from the backup copy if it is possible.

   Note

   To ensure stable and proper operation of Axxon PSIM on the Windows 11 OS, we recommend using the Microsoft SQL Server 2019 Express database server or the newer version.
