If you have an earlier version installed, it is recommended to upgrade from previous versions step-by-step: 3.6.4 → 4.1.0 → 4.3.2 → 4.4.6 → 4.5.6 → 4.6.0.

You cannot directly upgrade to Axxon Next 4.6.0 from versions 3.6.4466 and earlier. 

If you upgrade to Axxon Next 4.6.0 from versions earlier than 3.6.4.466, then do the following:

1. Remove the old version (see Removal).
2. Install the new version (see Installation).
3. Reconfigure the system.

Before you start updating, do the following:

• back up your configuration (see Backup and Restore Utility);
• stop the Server (see Shutting down a Server) or, in case of failover system, the NGP_Supervisor service. If you run multiple Servers in the Axxon domain, make sure to stop them all. 

To upgrade from version 4.5.6 to version 4.6.0, do the following:

1. Run the new build installer. You do not need to remove the previous build.

2. Install the build using an existing configuration. The procedure is the same as for a new installation (see Installation).
   

   In Axxon Next version 4.5.8 and later, when you perform the upgrade, keep the databases in the same folder. If you set a different location for the databases, then metadata and database events will be unavailable. In Axxon Next version 4.5.10 and later, there are no restrictions on database placement. To reduce the load on the system disk, it is recommended to store the metadata database and the log database on a separate hard disk.
