Previous page Getting ready for Axxon PSIM installation  Installation of Axxon PSIM to the Client (Workstation for monitoring) Next page

This section outlines a step-by-step instruction on how to install Axxon PSIM software as a “Server”.

Note

The following features are to be taken into account while installing Axxon PSIM software:

  • Axxon PSIM software is to be installed on a “clean” Windows OS (see the Operating system requirements section).
  • To install Axxon PSIM software, administrator rights are required.

To install Axxon PSIM software, do the following:

  1. Unpack the installation kit as described in Getting ready for Axxon PSIM installation; the destination folder will show the contents of the kit.
  2. Run the setup.exe file to start the Axxon PSIM software installation procedure.
As a result the dialog box of choosing language is displayed.

    Note

Axxon PSIM requires Microsoft.Net Framework 4.0 or later installed. It is usually included in the Windows OS installation kit and does not require separate installation. Otherwise, an installation window will open—you should agree to automatic installation. For more information about the Microsoft.Net Framework, see the official documentation https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/framework/.

  3. Choose the language of Axxon PSIM software installation and click Install.

As a result the Type of installation dialog box is displayed.
  4. Select the Server/Remote Administrator's workstation type of installation.
  5. To log all installation events, set the Enable full logging (increases product installation time) checkbox.

    Note

While installing and uninstalling the software events are logged to psim.log and uninstall.log correspondingly. To collect log-files, the “Support.exe” tool is to be used (see The utility for collecting configuration data on servers and RWS for the Technical Support section).
  6. Click the Next button.
The Selecting components for installation dialog box is displayed.
  7. Check the boxes next to the components you want to install (you can expand the lists by clicking on the ). Please consider the following when selecting the components:
    1. It is recommended to install all the offered components—the Axxon PSIM installer checks everything that is required for proper operation by default.

    2. If the installation is performed using the integrated installation package (with vertical solutions modules), at this stage you will be given the opportunity to select the vertical solutions to be installed. You should select only those that will actually be used on this computer; it is not necessary to install everything. Vertical solutions will be installed after installing Axxon PSIM Base. Information on how to install vertical solutions can be found in the corresponding documentation (see the links at the bottom of the Documentation for Axxon PSIM page).

    3. Axxon PSIM requires Microsoft.Net Framework 4.0 or later to be installed. It is usually bundled with Windows OS and does not require separate installation. If not, then .Net 4.6 will be offered for installation at the Prerequisites stage—make sure that the checkbox is set. For more information about Microsoft.Net Framework, see the official documentation https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/framework/.

    4. At this stage, you can refuse to install the MS SQL Express database server. In this case, at step 16, you will need to configure a connection to a remote database. After the installation of Axxon PSIM is complete, the database connection parameters can be changed using the idb.exe utility—see Connecting the Axxon PSIM database. Please note that Axxon PSIM operation is impossible without connection to any database source.

    5. To install Guardant drivers in Windows, Memory Integrity must be disabled (see Enable virtualization-based protection of code integrity in Microsoft documentation). If Memory Integrity is not disabled beforehand, a warning about the need to disable it will appear during driver installation, and Windows security settings will open. If at this point during the installation process you click OK in the window that appears without changing the Windows OS settings, the installation will continue successfully, but the Guardant drivers will not be installed (they can be installed later, see Using the Product.msi and Redist.exe for Axxon PSIM™ software installation).

    6. You will also be able to select the languages to be installed. To do this, download the language pack from AxxonSoft official website (https://www.axxonsoft.com/) before beginning the installation and put the archive's files into the languages folder in the installer's directory. As a result, a list of Additional languages will be displayed in the Components section of the Selecting components for installation window, and you can select the languages that need to be installed.

      Note

If this method of installing languages is not suitable, each language can be installed separately later (see Installing the language). After the installation, use the utility tweaki.exe to switch languages (see Switching languages in the Axxon PSIM Software System).

  8. Click the Install button.

    Important!

Auto installation of necessary prerequisites may take more than 10 minutes.

After this the Welcome to the Axxon PSIM Setup Wizard box is displayed.

  9. Click the Next button.
The License Agreement dialog box is displayed.
  10. Read the License agreement and accept its terms by setting the switch into the I accept the terms of the License agreement position, otherwise the Axxon PSIM installation will be stopped.
  11. Click the Next button.
The dialog box of installation mode selection is displayed.
  12. Select the installation mode.
  13. Click the Next button.

When the Custom installation mode is selected, the dialog box of choosing the installation folder is displayed, and then the Select components dialog box is displayed. This step is omitted when the Standard installation mode is selected.

    Note

The description of the component is displayed in the installation box when this component is selected.

The dialog box of specifying the path to the key file is displayed.

    Note

Leave the field blank if the key file will be copied later.
  14. Click the Next button.
The dialog box of installing Axxon PSIM as a service is displayed.

    Note

The 64-bit version of Axxon PSIM is not available when installed as a service. If this checkbox is set checked, then 32-bit modules will be started after installing Axxon PSIM as a service.

  15. Set the Install Axxon PSIM as a service checkbox if Axxon PSIM software is to be started before the user is authorized by the Windows OS and before Windows applications are started (including the Explorer application) that is used for starting Windows OS interfaces and various other applications installed on the Server (see Working with Windows OS services for operating Axxon PSIM™ installed as a Service section).
  16. Click the Next button.
The dialog box of MS SQL Server database server selection is displayed. Specify the authentication parameters to connect to it.

    Important!

Access of some user to the database is impossible without additional settings of the idb.exe utility and knowing of the login and password of Administrator if installation of the Axxon PSIM software package is performed by Administrator and Windows account data are in use for SQL authentication. So it is highly recommended not to use such authentication method of the SQL server.

  17. Select the SQL-server using the drop-down list.

    Note

If there is necessity to use the SQL-server installed on this (local) computer, the “(local)\SQLEXPRESS2014” item (set by default) is to be selected.

    Important!

You cannot connect different Servers to one database.
Server can use remote database, but requirements to network and other resources become higher and this can cause delays while transmitting events and states of cores.
  18. Set the authorization parameters that will be used by Axxon PSIM while connecting to the SQL-server.

    Note

If Axxon PSIM is installed as a service, select the SQL Server identity check, i.e. set the Use the following username and password checkbox and specify the username and password to login the Server database. If the database is to be connected via the Windows account, then for proper operation of Axxon PSIM any other the user is to have corresponding SQL Server permissions.
