Attention!

For successful operation, the IP camera must use the UDP transport protocol.

To switch the transmission protocol for the IP camera, you must set the RTSP=udp parameter value for the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\AxxonSoft\Axxon PSIM\Video\TransportProtocols registry key (for more information, see Changing the transport protocol used by IP-device).

Video recording from the computer monitor is performed to control the operator actions. You can transmit a video from the computer monitor to Axxon PSIM through general protocols using third-party programs, for example:

  1. Via the RTSP protocol using the VLC Media Player, which you can download from the http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ website.
  2. Via the ONVIF protocol using the ScreenOnvif program, which you can get on the https://vimeo.com/ website.

This section considers the example of configuring the VLC Media Player for transmitting video from the monitor screen in Axxon PSIM via the RTSP protocol. To configure Axxon PSIM for accepting and recording such a video stream, use the standard way as described in the Configuring the RTSP Server module and Selecting the disks for video archive storage sections.

To configure the VLC Media Player for transmitting video from the monitor screen in Axxon PSIM via the RTSP protocol, do the following:

  1. Run the VLC Media Player.
  2. Select the Open Network Stream... item in the Media menu.
  3. In the opened window, go to the Capture Device tab.
  4. In the Capture mode drop-down list, select the Desktop value.
  5. Set the desired frame rate for the capture in the corresponding field.
  6. In the Play list select the Stream value. As a result, the Stream Output window opens.
  7. Click the Next button.
  8. In the opened window, select the RTSP value in the New destination drop-down list and click the Add button.
  9. Go to the RTSP tab.
  10. Specify the port and path to the stream if necessary.
  11. Click the Next button.
  12. Specify the parameters of video transcoding and click the Next button.
  13. In the opened window, click the Stream button.

After that, you can configure the receiving of the RTSP stream and its recording to the archive in Axxon PSIM, see Configuring multimedia receipt using RTSP protocol and Selecting the disks for video archive storage.

Configuring the VLC Media Player for transmitting a video from the computer monitor via the RTSP protocol to the Axxon PSIM is complete.
