When you use the search in the archive, the metadata database is created and configured (see Creating and configuring VMDA metadata storage).
The size of the metadata database depends on the frame rate, minimum and maximum object size, and tracker sensitivity: the higher the frame rate and the larger the object size, the more disk space is needed for storage.
If the recording is performed 24 hours a day, you can use the following formula to estimate the disk space required to store the metadata database:
Metadata database (GB) = 0.5 GB * (Number of cameras) * (Number of days)
