Previous page Working with Windows OS services for operating Axxon PSIM installed as a Service  Configuring the restart of the AxxonSoft Axxon PSIM Core Server service Next page

Starting the Service

Axxon PSIM installed as a Service, is started before user authorization in Windows OS and before Windows applications are launched (including the Explorer application which is used for starting up such applications as Windows OS and various other applications installed on the Server). The PSIM Core Server service performs the start. The PSIM Core Server service is created when Axxon PSIM is installed as a Service. By default, the psim.exe executable module is used to start Axxon PSIM.

Note

When you work with Axxon PSIM installed as a Service, you can shut down Axxon PSIM normally, while the service remains running, and Axxon PSIM can be restarted.

Note

If psim64.exe must be started when the PSIM Core Server service starts, you need to change the value of the core_module_name registry key (see Registry keys reference guide) and restart the service.

Users

When installing Axxon PSIM as a Service in Windows, the PsimUsers user group will be created, and the user who performed the installation will be added to this group. To add other users to the PsimUsers group, use the Windows OS means. The users in the PsimUsers group have the rights to configure Axxon PSIM installed as a Service and access its interfaces. When it is necessary to provide access to Axxon PSIM interfaces for a large number of users, it may be convenient to use the Active Directory (AD)—see Configuring Axxon PSIM™ as a Service to work with Active Directory (AD).

Note

To start Axxon PSIM as a different user, you must either assign administrator rights to this user, or increase the rights, as described in OS settings for correct operation of Remote Admin Workstation or Server.

Note

For more information about user groups and working with them, see Microsoft Help website http://windows.microsoft.com.

When a user from the PsimUsers group logs in, Axxon PSIM restarts as this user. If you don't want to start Axxon PSIM as this user (in other words, Axxon PSIM must remain running as the SYSTEM user), disable the restart using the Tweaki.exe utility—see The Settings panel of the Windows section.

Note

If Axxon PSIM is running as some user (not as SYSTEM), if you change the user to any other user without logging out the first user, Axxon PSIM won't restart. It will remain running as the first user.

Access to the database

If Axxon PSIM is installed as a Service and the database connection is performed using Windows credentials, then to work as any user different from the user who installed Axxon PSIM, it is necessary that this user have the corresponding SQL server permissions.
