A motion in the area detector is a VMDA detection tool that triggers when the object (objects) makes some actions in a virtual area that is in the camera FOV.
To configure a motion in the area detector, do the following:
Make the necessary operations with an area:
Operation | Result |
Left mouse click in the video surveillance window | Area’s nodal point addition |
Hover to a nodal point and holding the left button pressed move the mouse | Area’s nodal point shift |
Hover to a nodal point and press right mouse button | Line deletion. If there are three nodal points the whole area will be deleted |
To select an object type for which the detector will trigger, click the
symbol. Available object types:an object which width is greater than height.

Detection of the following object types can be configured using scripts and registry keys: a human, a vehicle, noise, an object carried into the area, an object carried out of the area, other objects. See also CAM_VMDA_DETECTOR VMDA detection.
More precise objects classification can be performed using the neural filter (see Configuring the neural filter).
To select a detector type, click the
symbol. Available detector types are:Any movement in the area. Detector triggers due to any motion in the area.
Entering the area. Detector triggers due to object’s entrance into the area.
Exiting the area. Detector triggers due to the exit of object from the area.
Appearance in the area. Detector triggers due to the object’s appearance in the area.
Disappearance in the area. Detector triggers due to the object’s disappearance from the area.
Stop in the area. Detector triggers due to the object’s stop in the area.
Abandoned object. Detector triggers due to the item abandoned in the area.
Note
To ensure the Abandoned object detector type to work, the Abandoned objects detection checkbox must be set in the Tracker settings (see Creating and configuring the Tracker object).
To set the object color to be triggered by the detector, click the
To reset the selected color range to the default value, right-click in the palette area.
By default, the detector is triggered if the bottom edge of an object is detected in the area. In this case, the object is considered a rectangle (a rectangular frame around a real object), roughly divided into the following parts:
