Starting the Service

Axxon PSIM installed as a Service, is started before user authorization in Windows OS and before Windows applications are launched (including the Explorer application which is used for starting up such applications as Windows OS and various other applications installed on the Server). The launch is performed by the PSIM Core Server service, which is created during the installation process of Axxon PSIM installed as a Service. By default, Axxon PSIM is launched using the psim.exe module.

Note

In Axxon PSIM installed as a Service, the user can normally shut down Axxon PSIM while the service remains running and Axxon PSIM restart is possible.

Users

During the installation process of Axxon PSIM installed as a Service in Windows, the PsimUsers user group will be created and the user who performed the installation will be added to this group. To add other users to the PsimUsers group, use the Windows OS means. Users in the PsimUsers group have the rights to configure the Axxon PSIM as a Service and access its interfaces. When it is necessary to arrange the access to the Axxon PSIM as a Service interfaces for a large number of users, it may be convenient to use the Active Directory (AD)—see Configuring Axxon PSIM™ as a Service to work with Active Directory (AD).

Note

In order for Axxon PSIM to run under a different user, you must either assign administrator rights to this user, or elevate the rights, as described in the OS settings for correct operation of Remote Admin Workstation or Server section.

Note

For details on user groups and working with them, see the Microsoft Help site http://windows.microsoft.com.

When a user belonging to the PsimUsers group logs in, Axxon PSIM restarts under this user. If it is not necessary to start Axxon PSIM under the user (in other words: after logging in, Axxon PSIM must remain running under the SYSTEM user), disable the restart using the Tweaki.exe utility—see The Settings panel of the Windows section.

Note

If Axxon PSIM is launched under a certain user (not the SYSTEM user), then if the user is changed to any other user without logging out of the first user, Axxon PSIM will not be restarted, i.e. it will remain launched under the first user.

Database access

If Axxon PSIM is installed as a Service and the database connection is performed using Windows credentials, then in order to work under any user other than the one under which Axxon PSIM was installed, this user must have the appropriate rights to the SQL server.
